Many Lake Tahoe summer camps have started registration for summer 2009 sessions. There are quite a few summer camps that call Lake Tahoe their home; this is the first in a series of articles featuring each camp.
Midsummer's Camp is a one or two week summer camp program offered by the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. This is a day camp (9a to 3p.) for kids between the ages of 8 and 18 years of age. "Campers" explore the history and language of Shakespeare; building a character, voice, and acting techniques through work with scenes from several Shakespeare classics.
Camp instructors are both seasoned professionals and experienced arts
educators, trained to enrich each child's experience. The camp is held on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, at the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation Community Non-Profit Center in Incline Village. Campers' efforts at camp culminate in a performance the Saturday following camp.
Enrollment fee includes a camp T-shirt and one complimentary ticket to an evening performance of Much Ado About Nothing. Some of the activities kids participate in at Midsummer's Camp:
• Warm up games to prepare the voice and the body
• Warm ups also work to build the ensemble spirit
• Character work/development
• Scene work in preparation for final performance
• Stage combat workshops
Enrollment for one and two week sessions, from August 10th through August 22nd is already underway. (Camp Registration Form and Camp Scholarship Form )
